In 2021, I started Fossato Economico with the goal of helping fellow Italian investors learn how to properly evaluate stocks, avoid as many mistakes as possible, and select the best quality growth businesses.
As you can see, my old content looked quite bad, but, over time, I’ve not only improved in the craft—I also discovered some great AI tools that make the process easier and elevate my content. They are mostly free, as I've always been quite stingy when it comes to paying for apps.
Here’s a rundown of my favorites for you to steal, with some tips and tricks in between!
I design all my Instagram carousels using a free Canva account, as well as most of my Instagram reels and some stories. Canva helps me retrieve my content, so I can easily repurpose old ones, and it allows me to have unlimited storage for free!
Occasionally, I will also use PowerPoint, for example, to create tables and some graphics or to add titles with a gradient.
Pro Tip: Size your Canva carousels at 1080x1350px to get longer and bigger content on your followers' feeds so they won't easily miss it!
Sometimes, I experiment with different descriptions for my posts. I found that ChatGPT is quite great at proofreading my copy when I write longer ones. It not only makes great adjustments but also corrects any grammar mistakes I might have made. I also use it for research when writing posts. For more precise web research, I mostly turn to Perplexity—its ability to rapidly crawl the web and give me the exact answer I'm seeking, such as a source for a quote, is unmatched.

Visuals are crucial for Instagram carousels. To create amazing pictures, I rely on both Grok (free on X.com) and Midjourney, which I actually pay $30/month for. Midjourney is my first choice for generating abstract or concept-driven art. However, when accuracy is key—like when depicting existing people—Grok steps in, as I’ve found it handles likenesses much, much better.

Pro Tip: Ask the AI to generate pictures with a "white background," and then use remove.bg to remove backgrounds. If you're on a Mac, right-click on the picture (e.g., on your desktop), go to Quick Actions, and select Remove Background. This is how you can avoid paying for Canva if all you need is its magic eraser!
Instagram video stories, which I don't create very often, are better with subtitles as they make the content more accessible. I personally hate when I am on my phone, with no headset, and can't just read what a person is saying in their stories. That's why, for mine, I use CapCut, which makes adding subtitles quick and seamless. It’s a simple tool, and its free version is more than good enough!
Pro Tip: Export the video and cut the last seconds to avoid their logo appearing at the end! (This will probably be fixed in the future.)
